Men's Ice Hockey Comes Up Short Against Air Force

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to Atlantic Hockey opponent Air Force on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Taylor Best and Tommaso Bucci had goals for the Lakers (13-16-5, 11-11-4) while Joshua Lammon made two assists. Dalton Hunter and Joseph Duszak also tallied assists.

Matt Koch, Evan Feno, Brady Tomlak and Walker Sommer scored goals for the Falcons (15-12-5, 13-9-4).

Air Force took a 2-0 lead on goals by Tomlak and Koch in the first period before Best pulled the Lakers within one with 22 seconds remaining in the frame. Hunter and Lammon assisted the Best goal.

After a scoreless second period, Sommer extended Air Force's advantage to 3-1 early in the third. Bucci then scored, receiving assists from Duszak and Lammon.

Feno scored an empty-netter for Air Force with six seconds left in the contest.

Stefano Cantali played the final two periods and made 21 saves in a relief effort in goal for Mercyhurst. Billy Christopoulous made 34 saves for the Falcons.

Mercyhurst was 0-for-5 on the power play while Air Force finished 2-for-4.

The Lakers remain sixth in the Atlantic Hockey standings with only two regular-season contests remaining. They are three points behind fifth-place Sacred Heart and one point ahead of seventh-place Niagara.

The Lakers will return to action on Mar. 1-2 with a home-and-home series against Robert Morris. MU will host the Colonials on Friday, beginning at 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased HERE.
