  • Derrick Ellis Jr. totaled 24 points, seven assists and four steals to lead the Mercyhurst men's basketball team to an 82-58 victory over PSAC opponent Seton Hill at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday. Nelson Maxwell and Patrick Smith added 11 points each for the Lakers (17-5, 12-5) while Edvaldo Ferreira put in 10. Smith and Ferreira grabbed eight and six rebounds, respectively.
  • MU held a 33-28 edge in rebounds and shot 53.3 percent from the field (32 of 60). SHU shot 40.4 percent (21 of 52).
Playoff Implications
  • The Lakers remain in third place in the PSAC West Division and will likely stay in third through the remainder of the regular season. They trail second-place Slippery Rock by 2 1/2 games and lead fourth-place Pittsburgh-Johnstown by 3 1/2 games.

  • MU is back to its winning ways after beating SHU at home giving them a home record of 11-2 on the year.
  • The Lakers have the number two defense in Division ll only allow 60.2 points per game
  • On the offensive side, Mercyhurst is ninth in the conference averaging 77.3 points per game, third in field goal percentage (.483) and first in three point field goal percentage (.400)

  • Massey and Maxwell are the Lakers two scorers in double-digits with Massey leading MU with 16 points per game followed by Maxwell's 11.6
  • Massey is also fourth in the PSAC in field goal percentage (.556)
  • Smith leads the Lakers in rebounds and is seventh in the conference with 8.3 per game
  • Derrick Ellis Jr. leads in assists (4.1) while Edvaldo Ferreira plays a big factor on the defensive side of the ball averaging 1.2 blocks per game placing him fifth in the conference
