PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Mercyhurst wrestling team scored wins over No. 10 West Liberty, Rochester University and host Lake Erie to finish 3-0 at the Storm Duals Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers got off to a strong start knocking off the nation's No. 10 team in West Liberty 31-9. In the second bout of the day, Mercyhurst tallied a 41-12 victory over Rochester University. The Lakers closed out the duals with a 31-10 victory over host Lake Erie.
Against the Hilltoppers, Mercyhurst fell behind 3-0 after the opening bout at 125.
Eric Bartos gave the Lakers the lead with a 17-7 major decision over Jett Pattison. West Liberty scored a decision at 141 to take a 6-4 lead.

Michael Clark put the Lakers up 10-6.
Logan Grass scored a fall at 165 and
Trevor Johnson picked up an 8-1 decision at 174 to extend the advantage to 19-6. West Liberty scored a decision at 184, but

Against Rochester, the Lakers jumped out fast scoring a forfeit at 125. Bartos,
Caiden Mooney and Samson each tallied falls to give Mercyhurst a 24-0 lead.
Clark scored a 15-0 tech fall to push the Laker lead to 29-0.
Jason Breeden scored a 7-4 decision to push the advantage to 32-0. Rochester picked up a forfeit at 174.
Zach Breeden picked up a 10-4 decision at 184 and McGonigal tallied a fall to make the score 41-6. Kyle Scott scored a fall for the Warriors at 285 to set the final.

In the final match of the day, the Lakers fell behind 10-3 after four bouts with Bartos scoring a 2-1 decision for his third victory of the day.
Clark pulled the Lakers back within 10-9 when John Siemasz injury defaulted. Grass gave Mercyhurst the lead with a 6-0 decision over James Penfold. The Lakers would sweep the finals four weights as well including pins from McGonigal and Robb.
"Today was a total team effort and I'm really proud of our guys," said head coach Mike Wehler. "I know all the teams we wrestled today were a little banged up but we had a couple kids that weren't 100 percent as well. Today they wrestled for each other and that's a great recipe for success."
