CALIFORNIA, Pa. –
Alfredo Gallo earned his first Laker shutout as the Mercyhurst men's soccer team finished the regular season with a 4-0 win over Cal. Pa., during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
Mario Castel,
Connor Wilkinson and
Henri Tophoven each recorded one goal and one assist while
Fabio Schortmann scored the other goal for Mercyhurst (9-5-2, 6-3-1).
Castel started off the scoring for the Lakers during the 14th minute of action. Wilkinson crossed the ball in front of the net to Castel to tapped it into the bottom left corner.
During the second half, Mercyhurst scored three goals in six minutes to win 4-0.
Tophoven started off the scoring spree with help from Castel at 56:31.
Schortmann then scored off of a corner kick from Tophoven to make it 3-0 Lakers.
During the 63rd minute of play, Wilkinson scored off of multiple deflections to extend the Lakers lead to 4-0.
Joseph Valeriano made three saves in net for Cal.
Mercyhurst held a 7-2 shots on goal advantage while the two teams both had four corner kick opportunities.
The Lakers are back in action for the PSAC Tournament on Nov. 12, when they host Slippery Rock at 1:00 p.m. on Saxon Stadium.
