ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team shutout Slippery Rock 3-0 during the Quarterfinal of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday at Saxon Stadium.

Henri Tophoven,
Salvador Rang and
Salvatore Canzoneri scored one goal each while
Mario Castel,
Fabio Schortmann and
Connor Wilkinson had assists for Mercyhurst (10-5-2, 6-3-1).

After a scoreless first half, Tophoven got the Lakers on the board during the 48th minute of action. Castel took the corner kick and found Tophoven open for a 1-0 lead.

During the 82nd minute, Rang scored an insurance goal to make it 2-0 Lakers. Schortmann passed it over to Rang who was running up the field and struck it into the back of the net.

Canzoneri ended off of scoring in the 88th minute with a cross over pass from Wilkinson.

Martin Jarc was perfect in net with two saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

Matt Hunsberger made seven saves in net for Slippery Rock.

Mercyhurst held a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal and had a 12-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Lakers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Millerville for a 3 p.m. for the PSACÂ Semifinal game. It marks the first semifinal game for the Lakers since the 2016 season.
