Silvonen Earns First Collegiate Win, Women's Ice Hockey Sweeps Union

ERIE, Pa. – Jenna Silvonen earned her first collegiate win and shutout as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team finished off its weekend sweep of Union with a 2-0 win during non-conference action on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
 
Emma Nuutinen and Sarah Nelles recorded goals while Sam Isbell, Alexa Vasko, Emily Pinto and Maggie Knott had assists for Mercyhurst (9-4-1).
 
Nuutinen started off the scoring for the Lakers with her 10th goal of the season. She scored on the power play with assists from Isbell and Vasko.
 
Late in the first period, Nelles scored her third goal of the season to eventually end the game with a 2-0 Mercyhurst victory. Pinto and Knott had assists.
 
The Lakers went 1-for-3 on the power play while the Dutchwomen were 0-for-2.
 
Silvonen made 15 saves during her collegiate start for the Lakers while Bella McKee made 32 saves for Union (2-11-1).

Mercyhurst remains perfect on home ice with an 8-0-0 record.
 
The Lakers are back in action Dec. 6-7 when they head to Robert Morris. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 5:05 p.m. on Saturday.
