Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team explodes in the third period for a 5-2 win over Robert Morris during College Hockey America action on Friday.
Michele Robillard recorded one goal and one assist while the other Laker goals were scored by
Sarah Nelles,
Emma Nuutinen,
Maggie Knott and
Emily Pinto.
Sam Isbell had two assists while single assists were earned by
Summer-Rae Dobson,
Alexandria Weiss and
K.K. Thiessen for Mercyhurst (10-4-1, 5-0-0 CHA).
Michaela Boyle and Jaycee Gebhard scored for Robert Morris (9-6-2, 4-1-0 CHA).
Bolye got the Colonials on the board first on the power play at 14:03 of the first period.
Nelles evened the score with her fourth goal of the season during the second period. Robillard brought the puck in and slid it over to Nelles who was wide open to tie the game at 1-1.
During the third period, Mercyhurst scored two goals in less than a minute to take a 3-1 lead. The Lakers then added another goal six minutes later for a 4-1 lead.
Nuutinen scored on the power play with assists from Isbell and Dobson before Knott scored to extend the Lakers lead to 3-1.
Thiessen then shot the puck from the point and Pinto tipped it and found the back of the net for a 4-1 lead.
RMU came back with a shorthanded goal, but the Robillard tallied the empty net goal to give Mercyhurst a 5-2 win.
Kennedy Blair made 34 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Arielle DeSmet made 26 saves in net for Robert Morris.
Both teams were 1-for-6 on the power play.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
