ERIE, Pa. –
Summer-Rae Dobson scored thirty-six seconds into overtime to give the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team a 4-3 win over Union during non-conference action on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Emily Pinto also scored two goals for the Lakers while
Alexa Vasko tallied the other goal. Dobson tallied two assists while
Alexane Rheaume,
Rachel Marmen,
Sam Isbell,
Emma Nuutinen and
Maggie Knott had one assist each for Mercyhurst (8-4-1).
Emma Michalicka, Grace Heiting and Maia Martinez scored for Union (2-10-1).
One minute and twenty-one seconds in the first period, Pinto scored her first goal of the game to give Mercyhurst an early 1-0 lead. Dobson and Rheaume tallied the early goal.
Seven minutes later, Pinto scored again to give Mercyhurst a 2-0 lead. Marmen passed it up to Dobson who was on the two-on-one with Pinto. Dobson skated it forward and crossed it over to Pinto who found the back of the net.
Union scored at 12:30 of the first period to cut the Lakers lead to 2-1 with a goal from Michalicka.
During the second period, Union tied the game at 2-2 with a goal from Heiting.
Vasko scored late in the second period to give Mercyhurst a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Isbell and Nuutinen had assists on the go-ahead goal.
During the third period, Union tied the game at 3-3 on the power play when Martinez scored. The goal sent the game into overtime.
Dobson scored 36 seconds into overtime with an pass from Knott off the faceoff to give Mercyhurst a 4-3 win.
The Lakers were 0-for-5 on the power play while the Dutchwomen went 1-for-5.
Kennedy Blair made 17 saves for the Lakers while Bella McKee had 32 saves for the Dutchwomen.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
