ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's hockey team dropped a 5-0 decision to visiting Niagara Friday night in Atlantic Hockey play at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The teams played an even first period that finished scoreless and saw each team record nine shots on goal.
The Purple Eagles struck 1:36 into the second frame when Alex Truscott turned a Laker turnover into an unassisted tally.
Niagara would extend their lead to 4-0 after two periods on a goal by Ludwig Stenlund and a pair of Jack Billings scores.
Stenlund set the final at the 18:03 mark of the third period with a power play tally.
James Anderson and Ethan Johnson each recorded four shots for the Lakers while Quinn Wichers and Owen Norton each registered three shots.
Garrett Metcalf took the loss in net for the Lakers making 32 saves. Brian Wilson picked up the win for Niagara making 26 stops.
The Lakers and Purple Eagles finish up their weekend home and home on Saturday at Dwyer Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
