Men’s Hockey Bounces Back with Overtime Victory Over AIC

ERIE, Pa. -- Steven Ipri netted the game-winner 3:13 into overtime to lift the Mercyhurst men's hockey team to a 4-3 victory over visiting AIC Saturday afternoon to gain three points in the Atlantic Hockey standings.

The Lakers trailed 2-1 in the third when James Anderson found Dante Spagnuolo in front of the net to knot the game at 2-2 at the 12:16 mark of the second period. The marker was the first of Spagnuolo's collegiate career.

Just over a minute later, another collegiate first gave the Lakers the lead. Carver Watson took a feed from Ethan Johnson and walked down the left wing before burying a shot high short side to make the score 3-2.

The Yellow Jackets got even with 5:23 remaining in the third when Patrik Demel held in a puck and fed Luka Maver in front for the game-tying goal.

Ipri got the scoring started when he picked up a power play tally just 6:45 into the game. The Lakers would take a 1-0 into the first intermission.

AIC scored twice with the man advantage in the second period to set up the Mercyhurst rally.

Ipri led the way with a pair of goals for the Lakers. Anderson also picked up a pair of points on two assists.

Garrett Metcalf scored his thrid win in net making 35 saves on the night.

The Lakers are back in action on Friday when they host Niagara at 7:05 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Don't miss your chance to get tickets for Friday night by clicking here.
