MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Garrett Owens tied the Mercyhurst football single-season rushing touchdown record as the Mercyhurst football team closed out their season with a 17-7 victory over host Millersville Saturday afternoon. 
The Lakers went right down the field on their first drive. Owens capped an 85-yard drive with his record tying rushing touchdown of 43 yards.  
Mark Shafer Jr. Extended the Mercyhurst lead with a 22-yard field goal with 7:07 remaining in the second quarter. 
Millersville answered with a touchdown on their next possession to trim the lead to 10-7.  
The 10-7 score held until Doug Altavilla found Dustin Shoaf for a 10-yard insurance score to set the final at 17-7. 
Owens went for 182 yards on the ground to lead the offense. The Lakers finished the season 5-0 when Owens crossed the century mark rushing. 
Joseph Scro paced the defensive effort with 10 tackles including one stop for a loss. Alex Zacharyasz and Uwailia Omorogbe each recorded six tackles. 
The Lakers finished the year 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC West.
