Men's Soccer Rolls Past Pitt Johnstown 6-0

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Henri Tophoven scored twice while Martin Jarc earned his second straight shuout as the Mercyhurst men's soccer team defeated Pitt Johnstown 6-0 during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday.
 
Mario Castel, Ruben Calvo, Connor Wilkinson and Hady Sarr also had one goal each. Assists were credited to Wilkinson, Julio Betar, Austin Baraona and Cole Rathburn.
 
Three minutes into the game, Tophoven started off the scoring for the Lakers with his first goal of the game. Wilkinson passed the ball up to Tophoven who finished it off for an early 1-0 lead.
 
During the 20th minute of play, Betar crossed the ball inside the box and Castel found the back of the net to give Mercyhurst an insurance goal.
 
Calvo picked up his own rebound and put it in the box of the net to make it 3-0 Lakers in the 23rd minute of play.
 
Right before halftime, Tophoven scored his second of the game to extend the Lakers lead to 4-0. Baraona chipped it up to Tophoven, giving him a breakaway.
 
In the second half, Wilkinson was awarded a penalty kick and beat Pitt Johnstown goaltender Jonathan Reboton to make it 5-0.
 
Sarr finished off the scoring for the Lakers in the 73rd minute of play. Rathbun crossed it over to find Sarr for the finish.
 
Jarc made three saves in net while Alfredo Gallo came in for the second half and didn't see a shot. Reboton made nine saves for UPJ.
 
Mercyhurst held a 15-3 shots on goal advantage and a 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
 
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 9 when they host Cal. Pa for the first game on the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
