Men's Soccer Downs UPJ 11-1

ERIE, Pa. – Henri Tophoven scored a hat trick as the Mercyhurst men's soccer team won 11-1 over Pittsburgh Johnstown during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field. 
 
Hady Sarr recorded two goals while single goals were tallied by Connor Wilkinson, Salvador Rang, Massimo Buscema, Shams El-Akabawy, Vincenzo Esposito and Cole Rathburn for Mercyhurst (6-4-2, 3-2-1).
 
The Lakers got on the board first during the 18th minute of play with Tophoven's first goal of the game. Julio Betar crossed it over to Tophoven who headed it into the back of the net in the right corner.
 
Sarr then scored two goals in less than three minutes to give Mercyhurst a 2-0 lead. He scored off his own rebound first and then tapped in the turnover in front of the net for his second.
 
During the 38th minute of action, UPJ scored its lone goal of the game from Patrick Ahmed.
 
Wilkinson then got the rebound off of a penalty shot and put it in the back of the net for a 4-1 Laker lead. 
 
Thirty-nine seconds into the second half, Tophoven scored his second goal of the game, a penalty kick, to make it 5-1.
 
El-Akabawy got his own rebound and put it home to extend the Lakers lead to 6-1 in the 48th minute of play.
 
Esposito received Wilkinson's rebound in the 60th minute to make it 7-1.
 
Rang scored his first collegiate goal in the 72nd minute with help from Buscema.
 
In the 75th minute of play, Tophoven finished off his hat trick off of a cross from Jonah Kozak.
 
Rathburn then recorded his first collegiate goal to make it 10-1 Lakers in the 88th minute of action.
 
Buscema finished off the the scoring for the game off of his own rebound. The Lakers won 11-1.
 
Martin Jarc made one save while Alfredo Gallo made two saves in net for Mercyhurst.
 
Jonathan Reboton made nine saves and Sage Parsley made no saves for UPJ.
 
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 30 when they travel to Seton Hill at 4:00 p.m.
