Field Hockey Gets Set for Final Two Home Games

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team gets ready for their final two home games of the regular seasons with visits coming from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Kutztown on Saturday morning, before squaring off with non-conference opponent Frostburg State University on Monday evening.

Scouting the Lakers:
Mercyhurst will enter these games with a current record of 3-11 overall and 1-6 in PSAC action.  In the Lakers last contest on Tuesday afternoon against Slippery Rock they rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to level the score 2-2 on markers by Katie Goodenow and Clare Ahern.  Unfortunately, Jessie Trube scored in the final two minutes to help the Rock to the 3-2 win.  On the day the goaltending combination of Libby Jones and Mikayla Berndt totaled three saves.  Hayley Skidmore recorded the only other shot on the day for the Lakers.  For the season, Jones has led the way in the cage turning away 94 shots for a .648 save percentage.      

LAKERS vs. #4 Kutztown University

Series History -  The Golden Bears lead 12-2.  (KU won the last game 4-0 on 11/3/18)
Scouting the Golden Bears - Fourth-ranked Kutztown comes in at 10-4 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC.  They have won their last two games downing Millersville in the shootout and upended Mansfield 3-1 on Wednesday night.  Kutztown averages 3.00 goals per game, while holding the opposition to 1.07.  Kyra Wozniak leads the attack with nine goals and three assists for 21 points.  Alyssa Donato and Mackenzie Fuhrman have a combined dozen goals and seven helpers to account for 31 points.  Leigh Roselli has done it at both ends of the field scoring four goals with four assists coupled with a pair of defensive saves.  Katie Dotterweich and Kerri Hanshaw have both started games in goal with Dotterweich making 10 starts posting a 1.28 goals against average with .621 save percentage.  Marci Scheuing is in her seventh season leading Kutztown.

LAKERS vs. Frostburg State

Series History - First ever meeting between the Lakers and Bobcats
Scouting the Bobcats - Frostburg State will enter Monday with a record of 1-13 overall and will have not played since October 20th.  They score under one per game, while giving up over four and average 7.1 shots per contest conceding 20.5.  Gabby Rachuba paces the attack with four goals along with two assists for 10 points.  Logan Gladden and Emily Hughes have two goals each combining for nine points.  Brooke Lafayette has been credited with two defensive saves.  Sierra Smizer is top cat in the cage making all 14 starts with a 4.04 goals against average and a .707 save percentage.         

Road Trip
The Lakers will wrap up the 2019 campaign with a pair of road contests next week.  First, they travel to Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday, before taking on the Huskies of Bloomsburg University next Saturday.
