Football Set to Host Seton Hill in PSAC West Action

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst football team returns to Saxon Stadium on Saturday when host Seton Hill for a noon kick off against the Griffins.

Owens in the Endzone: Garrett Owens found the end zone three times last Saturday in the Lakers 44-23 victory over Edinboro. It marked the second time this season the redshirt junior has scored three rushing touchdowns including a three score game on Sept. 21 at Bloomsburg. The last Laker back to score three touchdowns in multiple games in the same season was Brandon Brown-Dukes in 2012 when he scored three times against Millersville and Cheyney on Sept. 8 and Sept. 29.

Crossing the Century Mark: Owens also picked up his second 100-yard rushing effort of the seaosn and eighth of his career. The Lakers are 2-0 in 2019 and 7-1 all-time when Owens surpasses 100 yards rushing.

Second That: The Lakers have been most productive in the second quarter outscoring opponents 76-27 in quarter number two after outscoring Edinboro 13-0 in the second on Saturday.

Records were Meant to be Broken: Senior quarterback Doug Altavilla now holds both the Mercyhurst all-time passing and total offense records. Altavilla passed Matt Kissell to take the top spot on both lists. Altavilla became the first Laker ever to surpass 7,000 yards passing.

No Average Joe: Joseph Scro recorded his second pick six in as many games on Saturday when he took a first quarter interception 80-yards for a score against Edinboro. Scro had an 18-yard interception return against Slippery Rock the week before. Scro just missed a fumble return touchdown against IUP, but was tackled at the nine-yard line. Scro currently ranks third on the team with 41 tackles.

Spreading the Ball: For the fifth straight contest seven different receivers caught passes against Edinboro last Saturday.

Scouting the Griffins: The Griffins are coming off a 25-21 victory over Gannon last Saturday. Seton Hill averages 14.6 points per game while allowing 35.6. Ryan Barabe leads the offense with 706 passing yards and four touchdowns. Kinan Humphries is Barabe favorite target pulling in 28 passes for 332 yards. Jayden Embeton-Gaines paces the defense with 52 tackles. He has also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and an interception.
