Field Hockey Hosts Fifth-Ranked Shippensburg on Senior Day

ERIE, Pa. - The Mercyhurst field hockey team will honor our their five seniors Katie Ballew, Abby D'Amato, Alexis Skibitsky, Clare Ahern, and Mikayla Berndt prior to their game on Saturday afternoon as they welcome fifth-ranked Shippensburg University to Saxon Stadium for Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at 5:00 pm.

Scouting the Lakers:
Mercyhurst enters the game with a record of 3-9 overall and 1-4 in conference play.  They are coming off a 1-1 week after defeating Seton Hill and dropping a contest to top-ranked West Chester.  The Lakers are led offensively by Skibitsky who has scored five goals and accounted for ten points.  Hayley Skidmore, Jillian Blas, Ballew, and Ahern have each hit the back of the cage once.  Seven different players have recorded assists as well.  D'Amato has been credited with three defensive saves, while in goal Libby Jones has made 83 saves with a .648 save percentage.

Scouting the Raiders:
Shippensburg is fresh off a loss to No. 1 West Chester on Wednesday and come to Erie with a record of 7-5 overall along with a 4-2 mark in the PSAC.  Jazmin Petrantonio paces the attack with 37 points on 15 goals and seven assists.  Jenna Sluymer and Emily Stauffer have combined for 21 points thanks to nine goals and three assists.  On the season the Raiders have ten players that have posted points.  Rosalia Cappadora and Mikayla Cheney have made defensive saves.  Megan Lay has been in the cage for all 12 games posting a 1.30 goals against with a .795 save percentage thanks to 62 stops.  Head coach Tara Zollinger is in her third season at the helm of Shippensburg and is coming off of back-to-back national championships.

Series History:       
Shippensburg holds a 13-2 edge in the series, including an 8-0 win last month in Shippensburg.  The last win for the Lakers came in 2015 when Kaitlyn Lechner and Andrea Goldbach scored in the 2-1 victory.   

Waiting in the Water:
Mercyhurst returns to action on Tuesday, October 22nd when they travel to Slippery Rock to face the Rock at 4pm.
