ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team earned its first win of the season defeating Sacred Heart 5-3 during nonconference action at the Home Opener on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Summer-Rae Dobson scored two goals while
Sam Isbell and
Maggie Knott each had one goal and one assist.
Emily Pinto scored the other Laker goal.
Alexa Vasko,
Megan Korzack,
Alexane Rheaume and
Rachel Marmen had one assist each for Mercyhurst (1-1-1).

Vasko chipped it up to Isbell who skated it across the blue line, past the defense and beat SHU goaltender Frankie Sanchez to get the Lakers on the board first.

While on the power play, Rheaume crossed it over to Korzack. She passed it to Knott who went top shelf for a 2-0 lead.

SHU came back with two power play goals to tie the game at 2-2. Rachel DeLong and Anna Klein had the goals.

Shorthanded, Dobson stole the puck from SHU, took it towards the net and tallied her first goal of the game to give Mercyhurst its lead back.

SHU came back again with a goal from Maddie Bishop to tie it at 3-3.

Pinto also went top shelf on the power play to give Mercyhurst its lead back once again. Knott and Isbell had assists.

Dobson scored her second of the game when she shot the puck from outside the faceoff circle to give the Lakers a 5-3 win. Marmen had an assist.

Kennedy Blair made 14 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Sanchez had 52 saves in net for Sacred Heart.

The Lakers went 3-for-6 on the power play. The Pioneers were 2-for-6.

Both teams are back in action Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
