ERIE, Pa. --
Joseph Duszak scored two goals and
Derek Barach made three assists to lead the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Atlantic Hockey opponent American International on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Dalton Hunter and
Jonny Lazarus also had goals while
James Anderson dished two assists. Single assists were credited to
Steven Ipri,
Ethan Johnson and
Tommaso Bucci.
Stefano Cantali was the winning goalie, totaling 26 saves.
Brennan Kapcheck and Chris Theodore scored the AIC goals. Kyle Stephan and Janis Jaks had assists while Yellow Jacket goalie Zackarias Skog finished with 20 saves.
The Lakers jumped ahead with a Duszak goal late in the first period. Anderson and Barach assisted the play.
MU then pushed the lead to 3-0 in the second period as Hunter scored with assists from Barach and Anderson before Lazarus forged a three-goal lead with help from Ipri and Johnson.
AIC closed the gap with two straight goals -- Kapcheck in the second and Theodore in the third -- before Duszak scored an empty-netter, with assists from Barach and Bucci, with 24 seconds left in the contest.
The same two teams will meet on Saturday at the MIC, starting at 7:05 p.m, when Mercyhurst hosts "Fighting For Folgs Day," in support of longtime hockey equipment manager and athletic trainer
