Joseph Duszak had a three-point night, recording a playmaker, during the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team's 5-4 loss to Atlantic Hockey opponent Niagara on Saturday.
Steven Ipri added one goal and assist while single goals were tallied by
James Anderson,
Tommaso Bucci and
Ethan Johnson.
Derek Barach and
Jeremy Wu added assists.
Noah Delmas and Ludwig Stenlund led the Purple Eagles with three-point games; each had one goal and two assists. Justin Kendall, Luke Edgerton and Johnny Curran also had goals.
Mercyhurst took the game's first lead when Johnson connected in the first period with assists from Duszak and Wu. NU responded with a pair of goals before the Lakers took a 3-2 lead late in the period on scores by Anderson and Ipri.
Anderson scored on the power play, getting assists from Barach and Duszak. Duszak added his third helper on Ipri's goal, which gave Mercyhurst a 3-2 lead with 2:36 remaining in the first.
Bucci's goal extended the MU advantage to 4-2 just 2:33 into the second period, but the Eagles rattled off three consecutive goals to take the 5-4 edge into an eventual scoreless third period.
Garrett Metcalf started in goal for the Lakers and made 19 saves through two periods before Colln DeAugustine registered 10 stops in the third.
NU's winning goalie Cole Weaver finished with 25 saves.
Both teams were 1-for-1 on the power play.
The Lakers will return to action on next weekend with a pair of home games on Friday and Saturday against American International. Mercyhurst will play its "Fight For Folgs" game on Saturday night. Tickets can be purchased
