Box Score NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team suffered a 7-3 loss to Atlantic Hockey opponent Niagara on Friday.
Derek Barach,
Dalton Hunter and
Matthew Whittaker had goals for the Lakers.
Joshua Lammon had an assist.
Ben Sokay led NU with two goals and one assist. Eric Cooley added two goals, Kris Spriggs finished with one goal and two assists, and Noah Delmus and Eric Steinlund contributed single goals.
The host Purple Eagles jumped ahead with the game's first four goals before Hunter got Mercyhurst on the board in the third period with an assist from Lammon.
Niagara answered with a pair of goals to increase its advantage to 6-1. Barach and Whittaker responded with tallies within 35 seconds to close the deficit to three before the Eagles tacked on their final goal. Two of the Eagles' scores were empty-netters.
Garrett Metcalf started in goal for Mercyhurst and made 25 saves. Cole Weaver had 26 stops for Niagara. Both teams were 0-for-5 on the power play.
The teams will meet again on Saturday at Niagara, starting at 7:05 p.m.
