Men's Ice Hockey Earns 6-3 Win over Canisius

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team completed its weekend sweep over Atlantic Hockey opponent Canisius with a 6-3 win on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.

Joshua Lammon recorded one goal and three assists. Joseph Duszak scored two goals while Jonny Lazarus, Jeremy Wu and Matthew Whittaker tallied one goal each. Whittaker also had one assist. Tommaso Bucci picked up two assists while single assists were credited to James Anderson, Derek Barach, Steven Ipri and Dalton Hunter for Mercyhurst (11-11-2, 9-6-1).

Dylan McLaughlin, Matt McLeod and Matt Hoover scored for Canisius (8-11-2, 5-9-1).

Late in the first period, Canisius started off the scoring with a goal from McLaughlin.

McLeod gave the Griffs a 2-0 lead at 8:47 of the second period.

A little over halfway through the second period, Lazarus scored his first goal as a Laker, on the power play. Hunter and Lammon picked up assists.

The Lakers then scored two goals in 2:02 to take a 3-2 lead into the second intermission. Duszak scored to tie the game at 2-2 with help from Lammon. Wu gave Mercyhurst the lead with one minute left in the second period. Bucci and Lammon tallied assists.

Thirty-five seconds into the third period, Duszak scored his second goal of the night to extend the Lakers lead to 4-2. Anderson and Whittaker added assists.

Three minutes and twenty-five seconds later, Whittaker scored on the power play with helpers from Barach and Ipri.

Canisius came back with one more goal from Hoover to make it 5-3.

Late in the third period, Lammon scored to end the game 6-3 Mercyhurst. Bucci tallied the lone assist.

Winning goaltender Garrett Metcalf made 29 saves in net for Mercyhurst while Matt Ladd stopped 24 shots for Canisius.

The Lakers finished 2-for-5 on the power play while the Griffs went 0-for-3.

Mercyhurst is back in action Jan. 18-19 at Niagara. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
