CLARION, Pa.—The Mercyhurst men's basketball snaps their losing streak as it earns a close victory on the road over PSAC opponent Clarion, 62-57.
Jason Massey led MU with 19 points and also had six boards.
Nelson Maxwell also scored in double-digits with 16 in the road win.
Patrick Smith had team high eight rebounds in the contest, respectively.
For Clarion (4-8, 2-6) Khari Williams had team high 18 points and eight rebounds.
In the first, both teams were pretty much even until 7:27 was left in the first half when Massey would start a 9-0 for Mercyhurst (9-4, 4-4) putting them up 26-15. Clarion would then answer right back with a 9-0 run of its own to cut the lead back to two (26-24). Heading into the half, Massey would get the final three points of the half off a layup and the free throw after the foul to put the Lakers up 36-33. The Golden Eagles shot 55 percent from the field while MU shot 44 percent.
Early in the second, Clarion would come out with a three-pointer by Williams to tie the game who then would make a layup and the free-throw after getting fouled to give the Golden Eagles their first lead since the beginning of the game. Both teams would exchange the lead eight different times before the Lakers would go on a 5-0 run to eventually close out the game 62-57.
