Field Hockey Falls To IUP In OT

INDIANA, Pa. – The Mercyhurst field hockey team lost, 4-3, in double-overtime to Indiana (Pa.) in a non-conference matchup on Monday.
 
Lauren Brock scored two goals while Clare Ahern had the Lakers' other goal.
 
Brock started off the scoring for Mercyhurst (1-2) with her first goal of the season during the 19th minute. Two minutes and forty-one seconds later, Ahern scored to extend the Lakers lead to 2-0.
 
The Crimson Hawks answered back in the 27th minute when Matti Reightler pulled IUP within 2-1.
 
During the second period, Brock added her second goal of the game in the 56th minute to push the Laker advantage back to two goals at 3-1.

In the final minute of the second period, Indiana (1-1) scored two goals within 16 seconds to tie the game and send it into overtime. Selena West and Georgi Chiavacci were credited with the goals. West then scored in the 84th minute to give Indiana the win.

Indiana outshot Mercyhurst, 24-11, and held a 22-7 edge in corners.

Victoria Triaga made five saves in goal for Mercyhurst while IUP goalie Olivia Accardi stopped five shots.

 
The Lakers will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 19, when they hold their first home game of the season against Mansfield at 4 p.m.
