Robinson's Walk Off Lifts Lakers In Late-Night/Early-Morning Battle With Shippensburg

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – A walk-off single by Kenny Robinson lifted the Mercyhurst baseball team to a 5-4 win over Shippensburg on day one of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament at Point Stadium.

The win advances the Lakers in the winners' bracket of the tournament where they will face Millersville tomorrow at a 6:30 p.m. scheduled time subject to change.

Robinson , Alex O'Donnell (2), Drew Delsignore, and Daniel Elliott all drove in runs. Elliott paced all batters with four hits, including two doubles.

Starting pitcher Chris Vallimont threw 91 pitches over six innings. He notched another double-digit strikeout effort with 11 while allowing just three hits, four walks, and two earned runs. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning.

Nicholas McRandal earned his fourth win (4-1) in relief with 1.1 scoreless innings.

Mercyhurst jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Delsignore's sacrifice fly and Elliott's RBI-single up the middle. They tacked on a third run in the fourth inning on Alex O'Donnell's first run batted in.

Shippensburg broke through in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs but Mercyhurst got one back in the bottom half thanks to another sacrifice fly, this time from O'Donnell.

The Raiders pounced on their first chance with Vallimont out of the game by plating two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Both teams traded scoreless half innings before the Lakers pieced together its game-winning rally in the ninth. Jack Elliott ripped a one-out double off the left field wall to get into scoring position. After pinch-hitter Parker Shannon walked, Robinson's came through with his single through the right side to score Elliott.

The game initially set for a 6:30 p.m. start time was pushed back to a 10:36 first pitch after the prior games ran long. Robinson's hit ended the game at 2:17 a.m., marking a 3-hour, 41 minute game.
