#17 Men's Lacrosse Falls Late To #4 Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. -- The 17th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-9 contest to Seton Hill in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday at Tullio Field.

Oran Horn scored three goals to lead the Laker offense while Dom Perna and Nathan Grenon finished with two goals and one assist each. Devin Pipher added two goals. Sam Crusha and Colin Greenway made single assists.

Horn and Pipher added four and three groundballs, respectively, while Greg Weyl led the defense with four GBs and seven caused turnovers. Brandon May had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

In goal, Alec Starr made seven saves.

The Lakers held an early 5-1 lead before the visiting Griffins (9-1, 3-0) battled back with five consecutive goals. SHU scored three goals in the second quarter and then two in the third to gain a 6-5 lead.

A man-up tally by Pipher evened the score at 6-6 late in the third before Perna gave Mercyhurst a 7-6 lead in the fourth. After SHU pulled into a 7-7 tie, the Lakers took their final lead on a goal by Grenon. After that, Seton Hill went on a four-goal run, including two scores by John Hofseth, to take the lead for good.

Hofseth, Zach Rusch and Shane Pettke had two goals each for Eton Hill. Max Eismann was the winning goalie with 11 saves.

Mercyhurst outshot SHU, 40-28, but the Griffins held an 18-5 edge in faceoffs and 28-24 advantage in groundballs.

The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. G-MAC game at Walsh.
