ERIE, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Mercyhurst baseball team split its Saturday doubleheader with PSAC foe Indiana (Pa.) at Mercyhurst Baseball Field.
The Lakers took game one 4-2 before dropping game two 6-4.
Mercyhurst is now 16-4 (7-1 PSAC) this season while IUP is 5-15 (2-6).

Mercyhurst 4, IUP 2
The Lakers only managed two hits in game one, but still came out with a two-run win.
One of those two hits was
Daniel Elliott's three-run home run in the first inning. The homer was Elliott's fourth of the season.
Mercyhurst's other hit was a leadoff single by
Josh Surowiec in the second inning. He eventually scored in the inning on a wild pitch.
Starting pitcher
Tyler Garbee was solid in five-plus innings of work. He struck out six and allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits. His win was his second in his last two starts (2-0 for the season).
Adam Jeannette relieved Garbee in the fifth and picked up his second save with two scoreless innings. He allowed just one baserunner (hit by pitch) and struck out two.
The win marked the first win of the season for Mercyhurst when they've had less hits than their opponent (previously 0-3).
Mercyhurst 4, IUP 6
The Lakers couldn't hold on to a one-run lead in the top of the seventh inning and lost by two to snap a ten-game win streak and lose their first PSAC West Division game of the season.
Both teams picked up a pair of runs in the first inning, with Matthew Schnieder drawing a bases-loaded walk for Mercyhurst's first run and
Jack Elliott following up with an RBI-single the next at bat.
Elliott and
Drew Delsignore were the only two players in the game with multiple hits (two each).
Mercyhurst pulled ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth on
Daniel Elliott's ground out which scored
Jimmy Standohar. Elliott now has a team-leading 26 RBI this season.
IUP rallied in the top of the seventh inning with four runs to take a 6-2 lead. The Crimson Hawks got to Mercyhurst reliever
Andrew Ciolli, taking advantage of a hit batsman, a wild pitch, and a Chris Callari RBI-double to tie the game
Hunter Treece relieved Ciolli (L, 0-1) and allowed the inherited runner to score on a bases-loaded wild pitch. IUP picked up two more runs on an fielding error.
Mercyhurst scored a run in the bottom half after
Zach Mitchell's single was booted by the IUP infield, allowing
Jack Elliott to score from second after his leadoff double. That would as close as the Lakers would get as the next three batters were retired.
Starting pitcher
Connor Ryan settled in after allowing two runs in the first and went four innings with six strikeouts and two runs allowed (one earned).
Nicholas McRandal threw a pair of scoreless innings in the fifth and sixth, allowing just one his and striking out three.
Mercyhurst travels to Malone Tuesday, April 3 for a non-conference, nine-inning game beginning at 2 p.m. The Lakers return home for a PSAC doubleheader Friday, April 6, against Seton Hill starting at 1 p.m.
