#10 Men's Lacrosse Falls To Rockhurst

ERIE, Pa. -- The 10th-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-8 loss to Rockhurst in non-conference action on Friday at Tullio Field.

Oran Horn led the Lakers with three goals while Nathan Grenon and Colin Greenway put in two goals apiece.

Grenon, Devin Pipher, Austin Robare and Dan Kritkausky added assists for the Lakers (5-3).

Pipher, Greg Weyl and goalie Alec Starr totaled four groundballs each. Weyl also caused four turnovers and Starr made 10 saves.

For visiting Rockhurst (11-1), Jake Martin, Michael Beckham and Collin Fischer tallied three goals each. Sam Lindsahl scored twice.

Kai Trujillo had four assists for the Hawks while Martin and Lindah dished two helpers each.

Winning goalie Alex Pfeil had eight saves.

Mercyhurst played catchup for most of the contest, falling behind 2-0, 3-2 and 5-3 before pulling back into 2-2, 3-3 and 5-5 ties, respectively.

The Lakers finally took the lead on an own goal by Rockhurst in the third quarter. Pfeil saved a Horn shot, but a Hawk groundball attempt resulted in the OG, staking the Lakers their first lead at 6-5. Rockhurst quickly tie the game at 6-all.

MU led twice more on go-ahead goals, in order, by Horn and Greenway -- 7-6 and 8-7 -- but each time, the Hawks had an answer. Greenway gave Mercyhurst its final lead with 8:57 to go; Rockhurst then responded with a game-closing 5-0 run.

Fischer scored just nine seconds after Greenway's tally, knotting the score at 8-8. Lindahl scored 20 seconds after Fischer, giving Rockhurst the lead for good.

Shots were even at 37-37. Rockhurst held a 36-21 groundball advantage and 19-5 edge in faceoffs.

The Lakers will return to action on Tuesday with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game at Alderson Broaddus.
