#6 Men's Lax Falls 7-6 To #17 Lake Erie

ERIE, Pa. -- The sixth-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team dropped a 7-6 decision to No. 17 Lake Erie on Saturday during Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at Tullio Field.

Dom Perna led the Lakers (5-2, 1-1) with three goals while Oran Horn scored twice. Austin Robare had one goal and one assist and Devin Pipher made two assists.

On defense, Greg Weyl totaled four groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Faceoff specialist Evan Schumacher was 12 of 17 in the circle, finishing with four GBs.

Laker goaltender Alec Starr made eight saves.

For the visiting Storm, Mitchell Stokes and John Kezerian scored two goals each while leading point-getter Lucas Shafer accumulated one goal and three assists.

Winning goalie Conor Sharkey finished with 11 stops.

The Lakers fell behind 2-0 before rattling off three straight goals for their only lead. The game went into halftime tied at 3-all before LEC (4-1, 3-0) went on a short 3-1 to take a 6-4 advantage in the third quarter.

Mercyhurst pulled within one goal twice after that -- both times on goals by Perna -- but that was as close as the hosts got.

The Lakers outshot LEC, 40-33, and held a 12-5 edge in faceoffs. Groundballs were even, 27-27.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Friday when it hosts Rockhurst for a 1 p.m. start.
