Lamovec Spins Another No-Hitter In Baseball's Sweep

GLENVILLE, W.V. – Junior starting pitcher Russell Lamovec threw his second-straight no hitter and the Mercyhurst baseball team won both games of its Friday double header at Glenville State College.

Lamovec's no-no was the driving force behind Mercyhurst's 3-0 game two win while the offense scored its highest run total in the Lakers' 9-2 win in the first game.

Recaps to both games are listed below:

Mercyhurst 9, Glenville State 2
Sophomore outfielder Zach Mitchell hit his first career home run and finished 2-for-3 to help power the Meryhurst offense to a seven-run win in game one.

Mitchell's three-run blast and Jared Kapturasky's two-run triple led the Lakers to a six-run sixth inning and broke a 2-2 tie.

Daniel Elliott continued his hot start to the season, adding two hits and two RBI of his own.

The big sixth inning allowed Chris Vallimont to pick up his second win of the season in his first start. He completed five innings and struck out ten while allowing just three hits and two earned runs.

Hunter Treece and Ryan Smerkar combined to retire all six batters they faced to close out the game.

Mercyhurst 3, Glenville State 0
Lamovec's second no-hitter of the season (first solo) included another double-digit strikeout total (10) and just three walks over seven innings.

Mercyhurst's pitching staff as a whole has allowed just two earned runs over 32 innings, good for a 0.56 ERA as as a staff.

D. Elliott drove in yet another run on a first-inning double and now has five RBI this season. Dan's brother, Jack Elliott, also had a RBI when he walked with the bases loaded in the third inning.

The Lakers play Post University in a nine-inning game Sunday at Wild Things Stadium in Washington, Pa. starting at 1 p.m.
