Early Lead Holds In #8 Men's Lacrosse Win At #11 Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- The eighth-ranked Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team earned an 8-6 win over 11th-ranked Mount Olive in non-conference play on Saturday.

Austin Robare led the Lakers (4-1) with a four-point game, finishing with two goals and two assists. Sam Crusha and Dan Kritkausky added two goals apiece.

Also for Mercyhurst, Colin Greenway totaled one goal and two assists. Nathan Grenon had a goal.

Greg Weyl was solid defensively again, finishing with eight groundballs and two caused turnovers. Joseph Plaskey added five GBs and three CTs in support of winning goalie Alec Starr, who had five saves and six groundballs.

Brody Sullivan and Jacob Bell scored twice each for Mount Olive (5-2).

The Lakers scored three goals in the first quarter and added another early in the second to build a 4-1 lead. From that point, host Mount Olive never pulled within one goal.

The Lakers held a 32-28 shot advantage and 34-25 edge in groundballs. Mount Olive was 10-8 in the faceoff circle.

Mercyhurst will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 17, when it visits Davis and Elkins in Great Midwest Athletic Conference competition.
