MASON, Ohio -- The Mercyhurst baseball team won its first two games of the 2018 season on Feb. 25 behind dominating pitching performances, notably a combined no-hitter between Russell Lamovec and Chris Vallimont in the first game.
Â
Mercyhurst defeated Ohio Dominican 1-0 in the first game followed by another shutout, 3-0, of Tiffin in game two.
Â
Recaps to both games are below:

Â
Lamovec and Vallimont combined for a two-walk no hitter over nine innings and Daniel Elliott provided the game's only score on a go-ahead, ninth-inning home run to give the Lakers the win.

The no-hitter was Mercyhurst's first since current MLB pitcher Dan Altavilla's no hitter back on March 21, 2014 in a win over Clarion.
Lamovec started the game and struck out 11 hitters while walking just two over six innings. Vallimont relieved him in the top of the seventh and stuck out seven of the nine hitters he faced to pick up the win.
Â
Elliott's opposite field blast in the ninth was all the offense the Lakers needed to win the game. He finished 2-for-4 with the homer and a double.

Five different Mercyhurst pitchers combined for another shutout in the Lakers' second game against Tiffin in a 3-0 win.
