Men's Ice Hockey Holds On For Win At Robert Morris

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris, 2-1, during Friday's Atlantic Hockey contest at the 84 Lumber Arena.
 
Derek Barach recorded a goal and an assist while Bryan Sienerth had one goal. Zach Todd tallied two assists and Les Lancaster added one assist for the Lakers (16-11-4, 13-8-4).
 
Michael Louria scored for Robert Morris (13-16-2, 12-11-2).

Sienerth scored the Lakers' first goal, receiving an assist from Barach. Barach procured the puck behind the RMU net and skated to the faceoff dot before dishing to Sienerth, who was waiting in front.
 
During the first period, Barach picked up the puck behind the Colonials net, skated it to the faceoff dot and dished it to Sienerth who was waiting in front of the net and put it in.
 
The Lakers beat the first-period buzzer with Barach's goal. The goal was scored on the power play with one second remaining in the period. Todd passed the puck to Lancaster, who took a shot that was deflected high. Barach found the deflected puck and snuck it behind Robert Morris goaltender Francis Marotte.
 
During the second period, the Lakers got called for a five-minute major and killed it off, but the Colonials scored two seconds after the penalty expired to close their deficit to 2-1. Louria scored the goal with assists from Sean Giles and Spencer Dorowicz.
 
The Lakers then held on the rest of the way to head home with awin.
 
"I thought it was a really tough game on both sides of the puck," said assistant coach Greg Gardner. "It felt like a playoff series. We've had some great games with Robert Morris over the years and this was just another one to add to that tradition."
 
The Lakers finished 1-for-4 on the power play while the Colonials went 0-for-1.
 
Brandon Wildung stopped 26 shots on net for Mercyhurst while Francis Marotte made 27 saves.
 
Both teams are back in action Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center for the Lakers' Senior Night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
