ERIE, Pa. --
Joshua Lammon scored with 15 seconds left in overtime as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris, 3-2, and finished a weekend sweep of its Atlantic Hockey opponent on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. With the win, the Lakers clinched a first-round bye in the Atlantic Hockey Tournament. They will host a best-of-three conference quarterfinal series.
On the game-winner, Lammon deflected a shot from the right point by
Les Lancaster. Lancaster had received a feed on the play by
Tommaso Bucci.
Lammon also had two assists as he helped goals by
Patrick Piacentini and
Kane Elliot. Piacentini, Lancaster, Bucci and
Taylor Best each had one assist for Mercyhurst (17-11-4, 14-8-4), which currently has sole possession of first place in the AHA standings.

Luke Lynch and Robert Powers scored for Robert Morris (13-17-2, 12-11-2). Matthew Graham, Spencer Dorowicz and Timmy Moore had assists.

After a scoreless first period, Piacentini got the Lakers on the board at 1:29 of the second period. Best took a shot that was rebounded in front of the net. Lammon then took a shot that was rebounded to the left of Robert Morris goaltender Andrew Pikul where Piacentini tapped it in.

About five minutes later, Lynch scored for Robert Morris to tie the game at 1-1. Graham and Dorowicz made assists.

Early the third period, Elliot scored to give Mercyhurst its lead back. Lammon picked up a bouncing puck and took a shot that was deflected toward Elliot, who was wide open to put it in the back of the net.

As Mercyhurst tried to close out the regulation win, Robert Morris pulled Pikul and capitalized to tie the game at 2-all on Powers' goal. Moore had an assist on the goal.

Time expired on regulation, setting the stage for Lammon's goal late in overtime.

The Lakers were 0-for-2 on the power play while the Colonials went 0-for-4.

Winning goaltender
Brandon Wildung stopped 37 shots for Mercyhurst. Pikul made 23 saves for Robert Morris. RMU held a 39-26 shot advantage.

The Lakers will return to action on Feb. 23-24 when they finish their regular season with an AHA series at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
