ERIE, Pa. –
Summer-Rae Dobson scored twice and
Sarah McDonnell was perfect in net as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team took down Bemidji 3-0 during non conference action at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Friday.
Sarah Hine recorded the other Laker goal while
Maggie Knott,
Emily Pinto,
Alexa Vasko and
Sam Isbell tallied assists.
After 40 minutes of scoreless action, Mercyhurst broke out with three goals in the third period.
One minute and forty-two seconds into the third period, Dobson got the Lakers on the board. Pinto chipped the puck up the boards to Knott, who skated it in, passed it to Dobson and scored on the two-on-one.
Hine gave Mercyhurst a 2-0 lead at 5:31 of the third period. Hine created a turnover, took the puck to the side of the net and snuck in top shelf past Bemidji goaltender Lauren Bench.
With 35 seconds left in the third period, Dobson scored the empty net goal to give Mercyhurst a 3-0 win. Isbell slid the puck up to Vasko, she skated it towards the net and dished it over to Dobson for the empty net goal.
McDonnell made 30 saves in net for her fourth shutout of the season and 12th of her career. Bench made 23 saves in net for the Beavers.
Mercyhurst finsihed 0-for-3 on the power play while Bemidji went 0-for-5.
Both teams are back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Tickets will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with cash only at the door. They are $10 per adult and $5 for student/seniors. MU students get free admission.
