SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. --
Amber Renz had 17 points to lead a quintet of Mercyhurst scorers in double-figures as the Laker women's basketball team earned a 79-74 victory over Shippensburg in PSAC action on Saturday.

Emily Shopene (12) and
Jenna Kunst (10) also reached double-figures in scoring for the Lakers (5-7, 2-3). Oswalt had seven rebounds, Shopene made seven assists and
Nicolete Newman totaled four steals.
Ariel Jones led the host Raiders (6-7, 3-3) with 21 points while Aunbrielle Green had a double-double worth 17 points and 13 rebounds. Lauren Mills also scored 17 points.
Mercyhurst used a pair of seven-point runs to seize the lead in the first quarter and never trailed after that. The Lakers added an 8-1 stretch late in the period and led 27-17 after the end of the first.
Shippensburg closed within three points in the third quarter before a 15-6 stretch by Mercyhurst left the Lakers with a 57-45 advantage with 3:52 to go in the period.
The Raiders came within five points twice after that, but each time, Shopene had an answer -- once with a 3-pointer late in the third and then, with a pair of free throws late in the fourth.
The Lakers will return to action with a PSAC home contest against Slippery Rock on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m
