ERIE, Pa. --
Nelson Maxwell had 22 points to lead the Mercyhurst men's basketball team to a 66-44 win in PSAC action over Mansfield on Wednesday at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The Lakers are 8-1 for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
Jason Massey added 15 points and seven rebounds while
Malik Jones scored 10 points.
Patrick Smith was the leading rebounder with 10 boards and
Derrick Ellis Jr. made six assists.
For Mansfield (1-9, 0-5), Garrett Cook and Tyler Moffe scored 14 and 10 points, respectively.
The Lakers (8-1, 3-1) scored the game's first seven points and never trailed. Maxwell got MU started with a 3-pointer before Massey hit a pair of layups.
Mercyhurst held a 32-21 halftime lead and then opened the second half on a 12-2 run. The Lakers held their lead in double-figures the rest of the way. Their largest margin was 25 points.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 29, with a 3 p.m. PSAC game at Shippensburg.
