EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's basketball team lost in a heart breaker in its first PSAC game of the year on the road to East Stroudsburg by a final of 65-64 on Saturday.
Nicolete Newman led the Lakers with 18 points including four three-pointers. Lauren Lapertosa and Emily Shopene were the Lakers next highest scorers with ten points for Lapertosa and nine for Shopene.
Lapertosa also recorded seven rebounds behind Kori Sidwell's nine. Mercyhurst (1-5, 0-1) battled back and forth with the Warriors as they led in points by the end of every quarter except for the second by two points each; 15-13, 14-19, 20-18 and 16-14.
The Lakers finished 23-54 (43%) from the field with East Stroudsburg (3-3, 1-0) shooting 25-59 (42%). The Warriors outrebounded Mercyhurst 35-34 in the game. East Stroudsburg's own Jordan Hertz and Tiffany Lapotsky both had team high 18 points for the Warriors.
Next Up: The Lakers will return to action Sunday, Dec. 2nd as they are on the road again against another PSAC opponent, Lock Haven.
