Women's Basketball Rally Isn't Enough to Knock Off Lock Haven

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa.-- Nicolete Newman paved the way for the Lakers with 16 points but wasnt enough as Mercyhurst (1-6, 0-2) fell to Lock Haven 66-60 in a PSAC matchup on Sunday.

Emily Shopene was the Lakers second highest scorer with 12 points and 5 assists. Newman also recorded 5 steals on the day.  Lauren Lapertosa led the team in rebounds with seven, respectively.

For Lock Haven (6-1, 2-0), Rileigh Devine had team game high 18 points in the contest today.

Mercyhurst trailed by as many as 17 points in the game before marching back with a 22-7 run in the 3rd quarter.  Newman hadn't scored in the first or second quarter before scoring 8 points in the run.  This rally would allow Mercyhurst to tie the game 51-51 with a Newman field goal in the 4th quarter before a  Shopene layup to give the Lakers their first lead of the game in the final quarter. The Bald Eagles would answer to this run and go on an 11-0 run themselves to eventually run away with the game and win 66-60.

On the day, Lock Haven out shot Mercyhurst with a field goal percentage of 45% while the Lakers shot 34% The Bald Eagles also out rebounded the Lakers 47-31.  Mercyhurst tallied 18 bench points while Lock Haven had 10.  Mercyhurst only held the lead for 46 seconds in the contest midway through the 4th. 

Mercyhurst will play its next game at home on Saturday, Dec. 8th against Bloomsburg.
