Joseph Duszak recorded one goal and one assist as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team played to a 2-2 tie against the Rochester Institute of Technology during Saturday's Atlantic Hockey contest at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
The Lakers (2-5-2, 1-2-1) held a late 2-1 lead before the visiting Tigers knotted the contest with 30 seconds remaining in regulation. That 2-2 score stood through the entirety of overtime.
Taylor Best also scored for Mercyhurst.
Joshua Lammon and
Matthew Whittaker contributed assists. Goaltender
Stefano Cantali totaled 28 saves.
MU took the first lead a Duszak power-play goal with eight seconds left in the first period. He received assists from Lammon and Whittaker.
RIT struck back on a short-handed goal by Jake Hamacher in the second period. Abbott Girduckis assisted the play.
Best struck for Mercyhurst's second power-play score of the night, giving the Lakers the lead with 8:10 remaining. Duszak assisted that goal.
The Tigers (3-3-1, 1-2-1) were on the power play and pulled goalie Logan Drackett to enable a 6-on-4 advantage before Erik Brown provided the equalizer. Hamacher and Gabe Valenzuela made assists.
Drackett had 27 saves in the tie for RIT.
The Lakers finished 2-for-7 on the power play while RIT was 1 of 5.
Mercyhurst will play next on Saturday, Nov. 10, when it visits Saint Lawrence for a 7:05 p.m. non-conference faceoff.
