SCHENECTADY, N.Y. –
Rachel Marmen scored twice as the Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team defeated Union 5-2 during non-conference action on Monday at Messa Rink.
Sam Isbell scored a goal and an assist while
Alexa Vasko and
Michele Robillard scored the other Laker goals.
Summer-Rae Dobson,
Maggie Knott,
Megan Korzack and
Emma Nuutinen picked up assists.
Union got on the board first when it capitalized on the power play with a goal from Sierra Lee at 16:47 of the first period. Haley Shugar tand Rachel de Perio had helpers.
During the second period, Mercyhurst scored three goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Mercyhurst got on the board at 8:50 when Marmen scored her first goal of the season. Knott passed the puck to Dobson who slide it back to Marmen waiting on the blue line to fire it into the back of the net.
Less than two minutes later, Isbell gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead off of a bad Union clear. Isbell picked up the loose puck and backhanded it top shelf.
With 42 seconds left in the second period, Marmen skated the puck towards the net and roofed it past Union goaltender Kate Spooner to score her second goal of the game and extend the Lakers lead to 3-1.
During the third period, Vasko scored to put Mercyhurst up 4-1. Korzack dished the puck to Vasko in front of the net and she put it past Spooner. Nuutinen also had an assist.
One minute and seven seconds later, Robillard scored the empty net goal to make it 5-1 Lakers. Isbell picked up an assist.
Union came back with one more goal, but it wasn't enough as Mercyhurst earned a 5-2 win.
The Lakers went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Dutchwomen were 1-for-2.
Sarah McDonnell made 21 saves in net for the Mercyhurst. Kate Spooner made 45 save for Union.
The Lakers are back in action Dec. 7-8 when they host Bemidji State. Puck drops at 6 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday's game is also the annual Beef & Beatles fundraiser. Sign up

Game tickets for Dec. 7-8, will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with cash only at the door. They are $10 per adult and $5 for student/seniors. MU students get free admission.
