Steven Ipri had a three-point night and
Joseph Duszak scored the overtime game-winner as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team claimed a 4-3 victory over Atlantic Hockey opponent Sacred Heart on Friday.
Ipri finished with one goal and two assists.
James Anderson and
Derek Barach also had goals for the Lakers (4-5-2, 2-2-1), who are 3-0-1 in their last four contests.
Dalton Hunter had two assists while Duszak,
Brendan Riley,
Jeremy Wu and
Matthew Whittaker had one each for MU.
The teams traded goals all night as Mercyhurst held leads of 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 before the host Pioneers (2-5-1, 2-3-0) tied the score each time.
Ipri put the Lakers ahead shortly into the first with assists from Wu and Riley.
In the second period, Austin McIlmurray scored a power-play goal for Sacred Heart's first score before Anderson answered with a power-play tally of his own with assists from Ipri and Whittaker.
Vito Bavaro tied the contest at 2-2 with the first of his two goals for SHU.
Barach had a goal with 9:39 remaining in the third with assistance from Duszak and Hunter and then Bavaro answered with one minute remaining for the Pioneers. Sacred Heart had its goalie pulled.
The Lakers entered extra-time on the power play and capitalized shortly after the penalty expired. Duszak received assists from Ipri and Hunter.
Stefano Cantali was the game-winning goalie for Mercyhurst, totaling 27 saves. Brett Magnus stopped 33 shots for the Pioneers.
Mercyhurst went 1-for-5 on the power play and SHU was 1-for-4.
The teams will meet again on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. faceoff.
