ERIE, Pa. –
Hayley Skidmore and
Alexandria Shumsky scored two goals each for the Mercyhurst field hockey team as it earned its second win of the season, 5-0, in a non-conference matchup against Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday at Tullio Field.
Skidmore tallied twice in the first half while both of Shumsky's goals occurred in the second. Lechner also scored for the Lakers (2-8).
Clare Ahern was credited with two assists.
Skidmore had her goals in the 11th and 20th minutes -- the second of which was assisted by Ahern -- before Lechner connected in the 30th.
Shumsky had her goals in the 50th and 57th minutes. Ahern assisted Shumky's first goal.
Mercyhurst outshot Queens, 19-3, while Queens held a 6-5 edge in corners.
Winning goaltender
Libby Jones made one save in net for Mercyhurst. Jet Van Den Berg had nine saves for Queens (6-3).
The Lakers will return to action on Oct. 13 at home in a PSAC matchup against West Chester.
