ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Field Hockey team fell 3-2 to first-ranked West Chester during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Tullio Field on Saturday.
Katelyn Smith and
Hayley Skidmore scored goals for the Lakers (2-9, 0-3) while
Katie Lechner and
Alexis Skibitsky had assists.
Smith scored during the 15th minute to put the Lakers on the board first. Lecher tallied an assist.
Skidmore extended the Lakers' lead in the 21st minute, assisted by Skibitsky. Mercyhurst took the 2-0 lead into the second half, but it was West Chester (8-1, 4-0) that tallied three unanswered goals to earn the win.
During the second half, Katie Thompson scored two goals to equalize the game before Emily Evans scored to end the game 3-2 West Chester.
Libby Jones made 12 saves for Mercyhurst while winning goaltender Marissa Elizardo made four saves for the Rams.
West Chester held a 30-6 shot advantage and a 16-5 edge in corners.
The Lakers are back in action Oct. 17 when they travel to Seton Hill. Start time is set for 4 p.m.
