Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team fell, 8-2, to Bowling Green on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
James Anderson and
Matthew Whittaker scored one goal and one assist each for the Lakers (0-1).
Michael Bevilacqua and
Owen Norton had assists.
Sean Baylis earned a hat trick while Max Johnson scored twice for Bowling Green (1-0). Connor Ford, Casey Linkenheld and Tim Theocharidis each notched one goal.
The Falcons jumped ahead with three first-period goals, starting with Johnson and then following with Linkenheld and Theocharidis.
BGSU tallied twice more to push its lead to 5-0 in the second as Baylis scored his first and second goals within a 1:37 span. Baylis completed his hat trick in the third, extending the margin to 6-0.
Anderson got the Lakers on the board with his goal, getting assists from Whittaker and Bevilacqua.
The teams traded goals the rest of the way. Ford made the score 7-1 and then Whittaker came back for the Lakers with assists from Anderson and Norton.
Johnson had the game's final goal.
The Lakers went 0-for-4 on the power play while Bowling Green was 3 of 5.
Winning goaltender Ryan Bednard made 20 saves.
Mercyhurst will be back in action this coming weekend when it they takes part in the Ice Breaker Tournament on Oct. 12-13.
