Men's Ice Hockey Stunned By Army In Overtime

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to Army West Point during Atlantic Hockey play on Saturday.

Dalton Hunter and Matthew Whittaker scored goals for the Lakers (1-5-1, 0-2-0), who held a 2-0 lead before Army stormed back with two third-period goals and the OT winner.

Michael Wilson had the game-tying and game-winning goals for the Black Knights (4-2-1, 3-0-1).

Hunter got Mercyhurst on the board in the first period with a power-play goal, getting assists from Taylor Best and Joseph Duszak.

Whittaker extended the Laker advantage in the second frame with assistance from Derek Barach and Josh McDougall.

Army found its way onto the board early in the third period as Zach Evancho converted on the power play. That set the stage for Wilson's goals.

Wilson was credited with the game-tying goal that went to review with 10.1 seconds left in the third period. Then, Wilson connected 1:37 into extra-time to finish the contest.

Stefano Cantali played in net for the Lakers, making 30 stops. His counterpart, Trevin Kozlowski, had 24 stops for the Knights.

Mercyhurst was 1-for-7 on the power play while Army was 2 of 7.

The Lakers will return to action on Friday and Saturday with a pair of home AHA matchups against the Rochester Institute of Technology. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. both nights. Tickets will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with cash only at the door. They are $15 per adult and $8 for student/seniors. MU students get free admission.
