WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst men's soccer team defeated Daemen 4-2 during non-conference action on Tuesday.
Mario Castel scored two goals while
Henri Tophoven and
Michael Blancato each scored one goal.
Alex Garcia Piles and Tophoven had one assist each for Mercyhurst (8-6-2)
During the 44th minute, Castel started off the scoring with an assist from Garcia Piles. The Lakers took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Daemen (4-12-0) tied the game at 1-1 with a goal from Erik Matthews during the 50th minute. They Bobcats then took their only lead of the game during the 55th minute when Nik Bohlin scored off a free kick.
Less than five minutes later, Castel scored his second goal of the game to tie it back up at 2-2. Tophoven tallied an assist.
During the 69th minute, Tophoven was awarded a penalty kick, which he capitalized on to give Mercyhurst its lead back.
Two minutes and forty-eight seconds later, Blancato was given a penalty kick which he converted on as well.
Mercyhurst held on for a 4-2 win as it outshot Daemen 23-12. The Lakers also held a 3-0 corner kick advantage.
Martin Jarc made three saves in net for Mercyhurst while Jarrett Lecceadone stopped four shots.
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 27 for their last regular season game. They host East Stroudsburg at 12 p.m.
