Women's Soccer Stuns Shippensburg 2-0

ERIE, Pa. – Chelsea Gunderson and Veera Viitikko scored while Vilde Wold was perfect in net as the Mercyhurst women's soccer team defeated Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Shippensburg 2-0 on Sunday at the Mercyhurst Soccer Field.
 
Gunderson started off the scoring for Mercyhurst (7-8-1, 5-8-1 PSAC) during the fourth minute.
 
Viitikko added an insurance goal in the 24th minute when she headed a corner kick from Emma Scali, to the back of the net.
 
Wold made two saves in net to earn her sixth shutout of the season.
 
Kasey Doss made one save before Delaney Shifflett made five saves in the relief effort for Shippensburg (6-9-1, 5-9-1 PSAC).
 
Mercyhurst had a 17-9 shot advantage over Shippensburg while the Raiders had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
The Lakers are back in action on Oct. 24 when they welcome Indiana (Pa.) for a 1 p.m. game.
