Box Score ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst women's ice hockey team split its weekend series with Robert Morris as they fell 5-1 during College Hockey America play on Saturday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Alexa Vasko scored the lone Laker goal while
Mary Katherine Gialames and
Sam Isbell tallied assists.
Kirsten Welsh, Natalie Marcuzzi, Sarah Quaranta, Jaycee Gebhard and Amber Rennie scored for Robert Morris.
During the first period, Welsh and Marcuzzi scored to give Robert Morris an early 2-0 lead. Welsh's power play goal was assisted by Gebhard and Lague.
Halfway through the second period, Quaranta found the back of the net to put Robert Morris up 3-0. Anjelica Diffendal and Emily Curlett picked up assists.
During the third period, Gebhard scored with help from Curlett.
Mercyhurst converted on the power play at 11:36 of the third period to make it 4-1. Gialames shot the puck from the point and Vasko deflected it to the back of the net. Isbell also had an assist.
Late in the third period, Robert Morris capitalized on the power play to earn a 5-1 win. The power play goal was scored by Rennie and assisted by Lague and Gebhard.
Sarah McDonnell stopped 18 out of 23 shots on net for Mercyhurst (3-5-0, 3-1-0 CHA) while winning goaltender Lauren Bailey made 20 saves in net for Robert Morris (3-5-0, 1-1-0 CHA).
The Lakers are back in action Oct. 26-27 when they welcome CHA opponent Penn State. Puck drops at 3:00 p.m. both days. Tickets will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with cash only at the door. They are $10 per adult and $5 for student/seniors. MU students get free admission.
