Dalton Hunter scored two goals while goaltender
Stefano Cantali made 28 saves in net as the Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team defeated Ferris State, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Saturday.
Joseph Duszak also scored a goal and made an assist for the Lakers (1-3-1) while
Derek Barach finished with two assists.
Josh McDougall also had an assist.
Duszak put the Lakers ahead, 1-0, with an assist from McDougall early in the first period and Hunter later connected, getting assists from Duszak and Barach, as Mercyhurst took a 2-0 first-period lead.
Hunter added an insurance goal midway through the third with an assist from Barach as Mercyhurst snagged a 3-1 advantage.
Jason Tackett had the lone FSU goal, getting assists from Nate Kallen and Liam MacDougall.
The Bulldogs held a 27-16 shot advantage and went 0-for-7 on the power play while Mercyhurst finished 0-for-3.
Mercyhurst will return to action on Friday and Saturday when it opened Atlantic Hockey play with a pair of 7:05 p.m. home contests against Army West Point. Tickets will be available 90 minutes before puck drop and may be purchased with cash only at the door. They are $15 per adult and $8 for student/seniors. MU students get free admission.
