The Mercyhurst men's ice hockey team heads to Big Rapids, Mich., for a two-game non-conference weekend matchup against Ferris State on Oct. 19-20. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights.
 
Last Time Out
Mercyhurst and the Erie Sports Commission hosted the Ice Breaker Tournament. The Lakers fall 7-6 in a shootout to No. 2 Notre Dame on Friday before suffering a 3-0 loss to Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.
 
Second-ranked Notre Dame went on to win the tournament over fifth-ranked Providence on Saturday.
 
On Friday, Taylor Best (2g, 1a), Derek Barach (1g,1a), Joshua Lammon (1g), Steven Ipri (1g), Josh McDougall (1g, 2a), Dalton Hunter (2a), Joseph Duszak (3a) and Owen Norton (1a) recorded points for Mercyhurst. Goaltender Colin DeAugustine made 42 saves in net.
 
During Saturday's game Stefano Cantali made 28 saves in net for Mercyhurst.
 
Previous Matchup
Mercyhurst welcomed Ferris State for the SnowTown ThrowDown last season. The Lakers suffered a 3-2 loss before winning 4-1 the next day.
 
During the weekend series, Matthew Whittaker scored three goals while Best and Barach each tallied one goal. Best also picked up two assists. Duszak added two assists while Lammon had one assist for the Lakers.
 
For Ferris State, Andrew Mayer,
Dominic Lutz had two goals while Zach Yoder had one goal. Single assists were credited to Craig Pefley, Cameron Clarke, Ryker Killins, Trevor Recktenwald and Jasen Fernsler. In net, Justin Kapelmaster made 32 saves on Saturday.

Ferris State holds a 7-1-1 all-time series advantage over Mercyhurst.
 
Scouting Ferris State
Ferris State is coming into the weekend series with a 0-2-0 overall record.
 
The Bulldogs were swept by Western Michigan, 4-3 and 5-0 on Oct. 12-13.
 
Coale Norris scored two goals while Frankie Melton had one goal. Corey Mackin and Oskar Andren picked up two assists while single assists were given to Recktenwald and Yoder.
 
Kapelmaster had 83 saves in net during the weekend series.
 
Leading the Bulldogs roster in goals is Norris with two. He is tied for the most points with Oskar Andrén and Mackin.
 
Ferris State added seven freshmen to its roster this season. The Bulldogs return 21 players including five seniors.
 
In net the Bulldogs have, Kaplermaster, Cullen Barber and Roni Salmenkangas. Kaplermaster leads with a .892 save percentage and 4.53 goals against average with a 0-2-0 record.

Mercyhurst is coming into the weekend with a 0-2-1 overall record.
 
Leading the Roster
Best is on top of the Laker roster with two goals and four points. He is followed by Barach, McDougall and Duszak with three points each. James Anderson, Whittaker, Norton and Hunter each have two points.
 
Between the Pipes
DeAugustine has earned a 0-0-1 record with a .847 save percentage and a 6.71 GAA. Cantali has put forth a .906 save percentage with a 2.86 GAA and a 0-1-0 record. Garrett Metcalf has a 0-1-0 record with a .783 save percentage and 7.50 GAA.
 
Laker Firsts
McDougall and Ipri recorded their first collegiate goals while Hunter tallied his first collegiate point during the Ice Breaker Tournament.
 
Cantali had his first collegiate start in net on Saturday putting up a .903 save percentage and 3.08 GAA.
 
Players to Watch
For Mercyhurst:
The Lakers added nine freshmen to their roster this season. Keep an eye out for the skaters trying to make their presence known on the ice.
 
For Ferris State:
Mackin leads Ferris State in shots on goal with seven. He has two assists on the season and is looking for his first goal.
